Optimise seating
Let ResRes suggest better table assignments for a service without changing any guest's time or party size.

Optimise seating looks at a service's bookings and suggests moving some to different tables. This frees larger tables or table combinations for more guests. Guests' times, party sizes and services never change.
Who can do it
Only owners and managers see Optimise seating.
Optimise a service
- Open Reservations and pick the date.
- Open the actions menu and choose Optimise seating. If there's more than one service, choose which one.
- Review the plan. Each suggested move gives a reason, for example Better table size for this party, Frees a larger table or Avoids joining tables. The summary shows what it frees up, such as "Releases 1 large table".
- To leave a booking where it is, choose Keep current table for this booking. Moves to a different area are flagged.
- Choose Apply changes (for example "Apply 3 changes").
All the moves are applied together, or none are.
Troubleshooting: possible results
- Current seating is already well optimised for this service – nothing to do.
- No safe improvement was found within the analysis limit – your seating is unchanged.
- Current seating needs review – some current assignments no longer fit today's tables. Open the listed bookings with View booking first.
- The floor changed while you were reviewing this plan or This seating plan has expired – choose Analyse again.
Tips
- Run it before service, when there are fewer seated parties.
- Check your table combinations are set up in Setup. Optimising only uses combinations you've configured.
